Remembering our President Ros Thomas

0

It is with great sadness that we have to report that our beloved President Ros Thomas passed away today, Sunday 8 March 2020.

Ros, who was 92, took over as President in 2011 when her husband Sonny died but her impact on the club stretches much further back.

The Thomas name has been synonymous with Swardeston CC for many summers and both Ros’s sons Peter and David went to captain the club’s 1st XI.

In recent years her grandson Mark lead the team to national success during his 13 years as skipper.

And now now great-grandson Harry is making sure the Thomas name continues as he makes his way through the club’s youth teams.

Speaking on behalf of the Thomas family David said: “Mum deeply loved Swardeston and was so proud of the boys. Her kitchen is a shrine of photos celebrating the success of the club – it is a sight to behold.

“She was so proud to be known as Lady President. She watched the final at Lord’s last year online and was in tears when the boys won.”

Swardeston chairman Stuart Bartram said: “The club owes so much to Ros and her late husband Sonny. It is very sad that we will no longer see her sitting watching the game by her car parked near the scoreboard on The Common.

“Personally both Ros and Sonny showed me such huge kindness when I joined the club 40 seasons ago. I will never forget those years.”
