At the club’s annual awards dinner the club trustees also made club captain Peter Thomas an honorary life member.
Chairman Stuart Bartram told the dinner, held at Brasted’s on Friday 8 February 2019, that Peter has served the club both as player and official for more than 50 years and now was the appropriate time to honour that service.
Peter had been a key figure in the club’s development from a village-green team playing in the lower divisions of the Norfolk League, through its rise in the Norfolk Cricket Alliance to become a founding member of the East Anglian Premier League.
During the last 20Â years the club had progressed enormously, becoming national champions twice and had featured in other national finals. It had also recorded seven EAPL titles and many Norfolk cup wins.
Off the field, Peter had strived to build a one-club culture and provided the key driving force behind all the teams representing Swardeston from adult to youth.
Stuart said Peter’s hard work and dedication had been of enormous benefit to the club but also to many of its individuals over the years and he was delighted that his fellow club trustees had unanimously decided to make the award.
