It was perhaps inevitable that the 2017 season would find it difficult to live up to the landmark achievements of 2016.
Disappointing to surrender our Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League crown after five successive titles, but our congratulations go to 2017 champions Sudbury. We did taste success however in the Bob Carter Cup and the Norfolk T20.
2018 will see a new captain leading the 1st XI with Joe Gatting at the helm. This follows an incredibly successful 13 seasons under the leadership of Mark Thomas. It was our pleasure to honour and thank Mark at our annual dinner in February and we wish Joe luck.
Congratulations must go to our women’s team who were champions of the 2017 Shell Norfolk Women’s Outdoor League. Over the winter they followed up by winning the Shell Women’s Indoor League too. This was a fantastic double. Well done to all.
Off the field, the biggest news of the year was our move to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) last Autumn.
This structure has many benefits, including limited liability for its members and officers, relatively simple administration and tax advantages. The club is now run by eight trustees and more information can be found on the club website.
We say a big thank you to our main club sponsors Leathes Prior for a second year of fantastic support and also to both Breakwater IT and Production Bureau for their backing too.
Our youth section continues to go from strength to strength with the launch of the ECB All Stars programme last summer another success. We are also seeing very encouraging increases in players joining our girls and women’s section and we continue to give this our full support.
Have an enjoyable season
