A lovely evening on The Common took place on Tuesday 15 August as we entertained our main club sponsors Leathes Prior to an evening of T20 cricket and LP supplied the fish and chips.
After weather had prevented the match taking place in 2016 and thwarted one attempt already this summer we were thankful the sun shone and various members of Swardeston CC were in attendance, as well as friends, family and plenty of local spectators that joined us for the evening.
For one night only, we granted exclusive rights to Leathes Prior for the transfer of Peter Lambert, George Walker and Joe Beadman into their team. The Swardeston XI was captained by Michael Eccles.
Swardeston CC elected to bat first, finishing with a score of 111-7 off our 16 overs. Both Eccles and Matthew Taylor reached 30 before retiring.
In reply, after a shaky start the runs started to flow as Polly Langford and Beth Slaughter exceeded expectations to help Leathes Prior win the match by six wickets. The final runs were hit by Beth to secure the win! Earlier Chris Sheehy hit 35 and Peter Lambert 36 before retiring.
The evening was then topped off with some fish and chips from Frier Tucks and a beer in the clubhouse bar.
Charlotte Sheehy, Associate – Business Development and Marketing for LP, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to get more of our team out to the beautiful Swardeston CC, show our support for the club and allow the two teams to get to know each other even better. Thank you to Swardeston for having us and for making us feel so welcome as always – we all had a brilliant time.”
Stuart Bartram, Swardeston Sponsorship Secretary, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful evening on The Common. Good fun all round and a deserved victory for the LP team. It was a great opportunity for club players and members to spend some social time with the Leathes Prior team. Here’s to next year.”
