Jason Gillespie to be 30th stag dinner speaker

Swardeston CC is proud to host it’s annual stag dinner for the 30th consecutive year.

This year we have secured the services of one of the true all-round successes in world cricket, both as a player and coach. We will welcome to Swardeston the former Australian Test bowler and now coach of Yorkshire, Jason Gillespie. jg

The great-grandson of a Kamilaroi warrior, Gillespie occupies a significant niche in Australian history as the first acknowledged Aboriginal Test cricketer. Gillespie enjoyed an international career stretching over 20 years, taking more than 250 Test Match and 142 ODI wickets.

In 2006, he created history by becoming the first night watchman in 1,799 Tests to score a double century. Gillespie achieved the feat against Bangladesh at Chittagong, in what turned out to be his last Test for Australia.

In 2011 Gillespie was appointed Yorkshire coach, with the team winning the County Championship in both 2014 and 2015.

Gillespie will be supported by comedian Jed Stone, a familiar visitor to  Swardeston.
