The Under 9’s made the trip to north Norfolk to play Bradfield on a grey and wet morning and the drive was worth it because we won our 2nd match of the season.
Captain for the day, Henry Hood, won the toss and put Bradfield in to bat. Although we didn’t take any wickets, we restricted Bradfield to 260 (remember that at Under 9 level, you start on 200) and there was some particularly tidy bowling from George Jackson, Henry Hood, Abi Flatt and Will Farrow.
Needing 261 to win, our reply got off to a shaky start when Henry was given out in the 2nd over and Dylan ran himself out in the 3rd over! However, Henry shrugged off this setback and hit 3 boundaries in his 14. There were also good knocks from Maddie Reynolds, who hit 2 boundaries, Jemima Watson, who hit a boundary, and George Jackson, who hit 2 boundaries, including the last ball of the innings.
Both sets of players deserve a huge amount of credit for playing through the persistent rain (and not complaining once – well, not to me anyway!). Thanks also to the umpires, Patrick Cave of Bradfield CC and Joe Beadman, who got thoroughly soaked as well.
