Weekend summary 7-8 June

0

This was a very successful weekend all round and it was good thing the mid day downpours did not last.

After their blip the previous week, the first team emerged from a tough assignment at Saffron Walden with the spoils. The home side batted first scoring 200 for 8. The most successful bowler was Sam Thelwell with great figures of 3 for 22 off 10. In reply, we were rocking at 62 for 4 until the younger generation stepped in. Lewis Denmark and Jason Reynolds  (35) put on a vital 72 for the 5th wicket and then Alex Levinson, in his maiden EAPL appearance, weighed in with a useful 13. This set up Lewis ( 66 not out) and George Walker to see us home to a great 4 wicket win.

The seconds had winning draw at home to Runcton. Rob O Donnell continued his fine form leading the way with 114 as we set Runcton 229 to win. They never looked likely to get close and ended up on 164 for 8. The pick of the bowlers were O Donnell with 3 for 26 and the Goon with 3 for 43.

The fourth team had a great win at Saxlingham. We bowled first, restricting the home side to 125 all out. Kevin Cooper took 4 for 33. In reply, we romped home by 7 wickets with Saffy Herathge scoring 52.

Last but not least, the Sunday side included 3 very young debutants against Downham,  Alfie Cooper, Ben Watson and Will Pierson. Despite this, we put up a good show and lost the game by 5 wickets. Sam Thelwell took 3 more wickets.
