Swardeston face away trip to Diss in Carter Cup

The three surviving East Anglian Premier League clubs in the Carter Cup were kept apart in the quarter-final draw.

Norwich, Horsford and Swardeston have been left to fly the flag following surprise exits for Vauxhall Mallards and Great Witchingham and all three were paired with Norfolk Alliance clubs in the last eight.

League leaders Swardeston will travel to Diss on Sunday, June 29, while Norwich also hit the road – albeit only for a short distance – to take on Sprowston.

Horsford will have home advantage when they take on Cromer while an Alliance representative is guaranteed in the semi-finals, with Old Buckenham playing host to Fakenham in the other match.

The tie of the round looks to be at Sprowston, who put their poor start to the Alliance Premier Division campaign behind them last Sunday when they knocked out Mallards.

Norwich were league rivals as recently as last season before gaining promotion to the East Anglian Premier League and the derby nature of the match should make for a fascinating game of cricket. Norwich will start as favourites following their fine start to the EAPL campaign – but with home advantage Sprowston will certainly fancy their chances of causing another upset.

The match at Manor Park pitches a side going well in the Alliance with one struggling in the EAPL – and Horsford certainly won’t be taking anything for granted in that one either.

In the Lady Mary Trophy semi-finals Swaffham entertain Beccles while Hardingham play host to Lowestoft.
