The under 13s have had a great week, beating both Mattishall in the league on Thursday and Gt Melton in the ECB under 13 Cup on Friday.
In the league game , 3 batsmen retired after scoring 30, Jude Ashkan, Zach Taylor and Tom Bailey. We scored a healthy 153 for 2 off our 16 overs with Will Hodgson and Sam Grisewood also enjoying cameos.
When we bowled Mattishall never really looked like challenging the target and fell 74 short at 79 for 5. There were 2 run outs and 2 wickets for Tom Bailey.
Gt Melton had previously comfortably beaten us in the league but we had a strong team out and the confidence of the win the night before. After winning the toss and fielding, we opened with a seam/spin combination and soon had Melton in all sorts of trouble. Edward Taylor was the star turn with a miserly spell of 4 for 6 in his 4 overs. At the other end, Cameron worked up a decent pace and gave little away in also picking up a wicket. After collapsing to 27 for 7, Melton never really recovered and all the bowlers kept up the intensity with Tom Bailon, Will Hodgson, Ben Blowers and Charlie Austin all picking up wickets.
In response, after losing Jude early, Zach and Elliot Fox played nicely with Zach looking to dominate the bowling. He hit 2 memorable leg side 6s in his 29 and saw us to the brink of victory. In the end, we ran out fairly comfortable winners by 7 wickets, a great performance!
