Unfortunately a change of scenery and a welcome match at the Common did not change the result for the 3rd team at home against Downham A on a sunny May Bank Holiday.
The bare facts are that Swardeston ended 29 runs with 168 all out chasing Downham’s 197-8. However we lost the match for 2 main reasons. Again, we failed to hold vital catches, with Chris Sharp dropped on 15 before he went on to make a inventive 59, and were chasing 50 runs or so more than should have been the case. Notwithstanding this, we set off in pursuit very strongly and were comfortable at 62-0 before, once more, our batting fell away and we stumbled to 62-4 and then 93-6.
On the upside Nathan bowled well after a loose start taking 2 for 38 off his full allocation. Goon again was very tidy with the ball. With the bat Simon Jessup batted well for 40 but will have been disappointed not to have cashed in in full. David Mickelhwaite also played well for his 28 before he was unfortunately run out.
The 3rds are yet to put in a complete performance and will not turn the season round until this happens.
