As I write this and the summer of 2014 beckons I do so knowing that our young team start the season as double EAPL champions! What an achievement! To retain the title, particularly as only 14 players were used throughout the entire league campaign, was very impressive.
The team spirit I remarked upon last year was even more evident throughout the summer and also got us to the national semi-finals of the ECB National Club Championship and victory in the Norfolk 20/20.
2014 will also see the 2nd team regain their spot in the premier division of the Norfolk Alliance, well done to Ben Hogg and all the players.
Our junior section continues to be very buoyant and I am delighted that after we fielded a Swardeston girls team in three festivals last season, at our AGM we appointed Katie Treutler as our new Girls Cricket Manager. We also plan to host our own girls festival this summer. Please make Katie welcome.
Congratulations to Callum Taylor on the award of his Essex contract and being voted Norfolk Cricket Club Young Player of the Year, and also to Matthew Taylor for his England Under-17 selection, despite an injury-plagued season.
I would like to thank my fellow committee members for their continued sterling work. As you can imagine, running a club of our size is a demanding task and I am indebted to all of them. I feel this is vitally important to focus on making us as strong off the field as we strive to be on it.
Finally thanks to our sponsor, The Parson Woodforde/Aquaterra as we begin our third year partnership, and the much valued ongoing support from Norwich CEYMS.
Have an enjoyable season
