Peter Lambert was named premier team player of the year by captain Mark Thomas at Swardeston’s annual awards dinner, held at The Parson Woodforde.
Thomas said the decision had been a tough one to choose between Lambert, Stephen Gray and last year’s winner Michael Eccles.
“Its taking a while for Lambo to reach his potential since his heroics in the 2010 Rose Bowl but a winter of me driving him to work, listening to my wise words, he finally got there. He scored 700 league runs, 1300 runs overall and on top of all that he got 39 wickets. A tough decision but player of the season goes to Peter Lambert,” said Mark.
Sam Thelwell picked up the John Bobbin Salver as 2nd XI player of the year, and was presented the award by Ben Hogg in his first season as captain. It had been a tough decision between Sam and Jason Reynolds, who scored 524 runs, at an average of 32 with 118 against Topcroft the highlight.
Ben said: “Sam took 43 wickets during the year, including 6 for 32 against Beccles, 5 for 14 against Lowestoft, 5 for 17 against Horsford and week after week he led our bowling attack from the front.”
All-rounder Alex Levinson picked up the honours for the A XI in a season during which he took 13 wickets, scored over 200 runs and also notched his maiden century in senior cricket.
Captain Nathan Taylor told the dinner: “The player of the year decision was based on the level of improvement throughout the year, from one of the younger lads. The maturity showed from someone his age is absolutely unbelievable for someone so young in the senior team and he is treated as one of the lads. My player of the season is Alex Levinson.”
Rob Ebbage was named the Swardeston CEYMS player of the year. Captain Tom Snelling told the dinner: “My Swardeston CEYMS player of the season goes to a player for his consistency, his experience and wisdom to allow me to make important decisions on the field. He is fantastic with the younger players in the side, he is extremely competitive and with an average of 64 scoring 451 in 9 innings, top score of 102 not out, my player of the year is awarded to Rob Ebbage.”
Dan Martin picked up the Sunday Xi player of the year award. Captain Ben Hogg said: “There was only one clear winner scoring 290 runs, taking 10 wickets, and he played every week. The winner of the Sunday XI player of the year is Daniel Martin.”
