Lewis Denmark remains defiant as Swardeston hold on for draw

he 1st XI managed to hang on for a draw against second placed Saffron Walden, and in doing so maintained their place at the top of the EAPL.

Saffron Walden’s in-form Australian Glen Batticciotto top-scored with 70 as a 248-6 total was posted.

Swardeston’s reply never got into gear and at 94-6 the hosts could sense victory but a defiant unbeaten 40 from Lewis Denmark helped Swardeston to avoid defeat as they reached 165-9 at the close.

In the 2nd XI, Matt Taylor took four wickets but could not prevent Swardeston from slipping to a 35-run home defeat by Topcroft; Swardeston being bowled out for 153.

The 3rd XI continued to set the pace in Division Two after a seven-wicket home win over Downham A.

Downham had batted first and posted 171-9, with Don Drepaulsingh taking 3 for 23 and David Horrex 3 for 31. In reply, Dave Micklethwaite (98) and Ben Hogg (47) combined to put on 149 for the 2nd wicket, and in doing so helped to secure a comfortable victory.

Swardeston-CEYMS secured a winning draw at Postwick, with Kevin Cooper hitting his second successive century.
