The final of the Terry Moore Norfolk Under 11 tournament was held at Sprowston CC last Friday 12 August and was contested by Great Melton and Swardeston-CEYMS in a 20 overs a side pairs format.

Swardeston-CEYMS were asked to bat first and got off to a swift start with Flatt (15) and Watson (12) putting on 33 in the first 5 overs for the loss of only 1 wicket. Sutcliffe and Cushion kept the scoreboard ticking over and at the halfway stage Swardeston-CEYMS had reached 58 for 3. Grisley and Baker then batted with great skill to add 24 in their 5 overs without losing a wicket. The last pair of Cooper and Scrivner although losing 2 wickets pushed the score on adding 44 runs with Cooper making 35 in belligerent fashion despite being bowled first ball! The Swardeston-CEYMS innings closed on 326 for 5 leaving Great Melton needing a net score of 302 to win. Of the bowlers Marchant took 2 wickets with Ling, Moy and Wilson taking 1 each.

The Great Melton reply began in great style with the first pair of Hughes and Ling racing to 34 in their first 5 overs with no wickets lost. Hughes was particularly in fine form scoring 20. Unfortunately the second pair of Howard and Wilson found scoring difficult as did the third pair of Jermyn and Stearman and with only 5 overs to go Great Melton had reached only 51 for 3 wickets. The final pair of Marchant and Moy tried their best but lost 3 wickets in trying to up the scoring rate. Great Melton finished on 270 for 6 wickets a net score of 240. The bowling was generally very tight with Grisley taking 3 for 13 off 4 overs and Cushion 1 for 1 off 2. The rest of the team bowled well with Cooper in particular bowling 3 overs all of which were maidens. The ground fielding of Swardeston-CEYMS was particularly impressive which also resulted in a run out in the innings.

Swardeston-CEYMS Under 11’s therefore retained the trophy they won last year by a resounding 61 run margin with the man of the match being given to Cooper for his solid all round performance.
