Swardeston slipped to a dramatic 1 run defeat at home to Chingford in the first round of the ECB National Club Championship.
The visitors batted first and were restricted to 211 for seven from their 45 overs, with Richard Sims picking up three for 26.
Swardeston lost both openers, Will Rist and Daniel Martin, with just nine on the board and Jaden Hatwell was left holding the innings together as they struggled to 126 for six. Hopes were raised as skipper Mark Thomas joined Hatwell in a seventh-wicket stand of 69, before Thomas departed for 25. With 12 runs still needed, Swardeston lost the crucial wicket of Hatwell, who had made 101 from 122 balls, with 11 fours.
Swardeston needed two runs from the final ball, but last man Matthew Taylor was caught to hand Chingford victory.
Meanwhile the Sunday XI sailed into the next round of the Mid-Norfolk Challenge Cup with an emphatic 8 wicket win at home to Terrington St. Clement, with Ben Shearing firing an unbeaten 57.
