Swardeston Under 14s (pictured) joined their Under 12 counterparts in winning through to the East Anglian finals after winning The Lord’s Taverners/Norfolk Cricket Board competition held at the UEA Sportspark on 6 March.
In the final Swardeston/CEYMS had too much for their opponents Lowestoft who probably had not scored enough runs and despite a very committed fielding performance could not prevent a Swardeston win.
Earlier in the day the three groups were well contested with each winner and the best runner up progressing to the semi-final. In group 1 Great Melton edged home with Mallards and Topcroft fighting out for second where in their final match Topcroft just edged home in a very tense encounter which meant both were eliminated. Swardeston and Garboldisham dominated group 2 with the former winning the final head to head to lead the group, Garboldisham by virtue of bonus points earned in that match were the best runners up. Lowestoft were dominant in group 3 winning both their matches. Great Ellingham competed but could only field a team including over-age players and therefore their results were declared void. Horsford finished second but with insufficient points to progress.
In the first semi-final Lowestoft were comfortable winners against Gt Melton who acknowledged they had done very well to reach this far. The Swardeston v Garboldisham match mirrored the group with Swardeston proving to be too strong.
On the day Swardeston were worthy champions and now represent Norfolk on 20th March
