Swardeston CEYMS’s Under-17s completed a Carter Cup clean sweep for the club as they won the junior competition at Manor Park on Sunday.

Swardeston, nicknamed the Sharks, beat Horsford Knights by four wickets in a high scoring final, adding to their senior counterparts’ Carter Cup success last month.

The Knights were put into bat and their innings was dominated by Northants academy star Ryan Findlay, who smashed 106 from 98 balls, including 17 fours. Opener Adam Hunt contributed 37 and there was a valuable lower order knock of 31 from Devin Bellchamber as Horsford posted 232 for eight from their 42 overs. Top bowler for Swardeston was Matthew Taylor, who took three for 41, while Will Kennard claimed two for 36.

The Sharks suffered the early loss of key batsman Ben Baldwin, but that brought together James Hooper and Robbie Bridgstock for a second wicket stand of 145.

Bridgstock was out for 70 to man of the match Findlay, but Hooper, who hit a century in the quarter-finals, remained to steer his side to victory with 10 balls remaining. Hooper finished on 84no from 121 balls, including six fours and a six as Swardeston became the first club to win both the junior and senior competitions in the same season.
