Swardeston spinner George Walker was this week rewarded for his fine form with a recall to the Leicestershire first team for their County Championship match against Derbyshire.
Walker’s last appearance for Leicestershire was in 2003, but his incredible form for Swardeston and Norfolk this year – he has taken 30 wickets in the league and 27 for the county – earned him a chance in last week’s second XI game against Warwickshire. He responded with a five-wicket haul and was drafted into the senior side in place of Claude Henderson for this week’s match at Derby.
The 25-year-old left armer took the wicket of Garry Park, who had made 72, as Walker returned figures of one for 75 in Derbyshire’s first innings. Yesterday, Walker made 13 in Leicestershire’s second innings as they built a lead of 256.
