Mark Thomas led his side to their second 20/20 trophy of the season under the lights at Brundall on Friday night.

Thomas’ 21 ball undefeated 47 boosted Swardeston’s side to the highest total of the two nights as they posted 188 for 6. Thomas hit three sixes as he took the game out of the hosts’ reach. Saphie Herathge had set the tone for the innings hitting 5 sixes on the small Brundall ground in his 27 ball 51 and Jaden Hatwell followed up his unbeaten 87 in Thursday’s semi-final, with 32.

There were further useful contributions from Ian Tufts (19), Matt Kelly (14) and George Walker (10*).

In reply Vauxhall Mallards were always up against it needing over 9 an over from the start, and an impressive opening spell from Michael Eccles and Sam Thelwell saw the batsmen struggling with the conditions and the run rate rising.

George Walker also returned economical figures and wickets started to fall, Richard Sims taking three and two batsmen falling to run outs and the hosts ended their innings 52 runs short despite some big hitting by Jonathan Spelman in the last over.

Swardeston add the title to that won at Horsford earlier in the season, and now move into this weekend’s important fixtures in confident mood.
