The regional finals of the MCC national ‘spirit of cricket’ under 13 competition were held at the beautiful Bishops Stortford CC on Tuesday 17 July 2007. Walking the outfield before the matches was an experience in itself & as the draw was made
Swardeston were paired with Chesham from Buckinghamshire in the semi-finals. They were a classy outfit, posting 141 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. The youngsters made a good effort of chasing the total but fell away to finish 107 all out. Toby Fletcher top scored with 30 before being run out.
A hot lunch was provided as the heavy showers prevailed over the middle of the day.
The morning defeat resulted in a third / fourth final fixture against Biddenham from Bedfordshire. The opposition elected to bat making their way to 88 for 6 with Oliver Ebbage taking 2 for 13 from 4 overs & Matthew Taylor drawing praise from the umpires for his 1 for 11. The chase was successful in the 16 over with Toby again top scoring with 29 being ably supported by Robbie Bridgestock on 21 no.
The lads were a credit to the club & enjoyed their day out. Many thanks to the club committee for providing the transport, the parents for supporting, Neil Taylor & Neil Bridgestock for coaching.
