The competition, played at the UEA, included 12 teams, with three leagues of four.
Each game consisted of 10 overs of pairs cricket per side. Swardeston beat Stow, Thetford and Sheringham in the group matches, to earn a mouth-watering tie against Vauxhall Mallards in the semi-final.
Although the team was very inexperienced in terms of playing indoor cricket; excellent teamwork and the usual “never say die” Swardeston attitude won through, with Swardeston winning by over 25 runs against a far more experienced Mallards side.
In the final, Swardeston won by 15 runs, beating Sheringham again, who had qualified as the best runners up in the round–robin stage and then had beaten North Runcton in their semi-final.
The team was: Henry Parkinson, William Catchpole, Oliver Charlish, William Waterman, Matthew Taylor and Eddie Smith
The team was brilliantly led by captain Henry Parkinson, showing amazing tactical awareness with his field placements and great running between the wickets with his partner William Catchpole.
Eddie Smith kept wicket with aplomb, especially when keeping wicket to Matthew Taylor’s leg spin which caused havoc all day. Oliver Charlish and William Waterman played well with bat and ball throughout the day.
This was a truly satisfying win which taught the boys a great deal about the value of good teamwork. The regional final will be played on Saturday 31 March 2007, starting at 8am at the UEA. All support would be most welcome.
