Swardeston’s women’s team are to embark on their first season in competitive cricket.
They will be competing in the Barnard Sports Ladies League with Downham Town, Horsford and Norwich.
Six fixtures have been arranged, starting with the away trip to Norwich on Sunday 7 May. See fixtures section.
Swardeston have decided to enter the league after beginning practice sessions for women cricketers during the summer of 2005, thanks to new club sponsors Nice and Sportsmatch backing. The team also played some friendly games at the end of the season.
Swardeston have also announced the start of girls’ coaching which will run throughout the season.
Practice for both the women and girls starts at Hilltops, Swardeston, on Thursday 20 April 2006 at 6.15pm – for every week throughout the summer.
Women’s team manager Mark Thomas is keen to hear from any women interested in coming along to practice and in playing in games. He can be contacted on 07765 204196.
Both Mark and Chris Watts, who is organising the girls coaching, can also be contacted via swardestoncc@btinternet.com.
