Swardeston cricket duo Rob Newton and Bud Bailey made an impressive contribution to England Under-16s’ latest tour victory in South Africa.

Bailey bowled superbly, taking three for 20 from seven overs in the second tour match as Cape Town Southern Suburbs were bowled out for 112.

In reply, England were rocking at 10 for two when Newton came in and hit a typically belligerent 65 off 51 balls, including two sixes, taking the tourists to within eight runs of victory. His 65 came out of a partnership of 94 with Hampshire academy player Hamza Riazuridhan. It was then a formality for England to wrap up their second victory.

The Norfolk and Northamptonshire Academy pair made up for lack of activity in the first match against Cape Town Northern Suburbs. The tourist won by 10 wickets and Newton did not need to bat, while Bailey did not play.
