Swardeston-CEYMS Sharks U17 cruised into the final of the inaugural Junior Bob Carter Trophy with an emphatic 86 run victory over the Horsford Knights.
Put into bat the Sharks made the worst possible start losing a wicket to the 1st ball of the game. A second wicket fell soon after leaving the Sharks 4-2, a long way from setting a match winning total on a wicket and afternoon perfect for batting.
Ben Shearing (20) and James Pearson steadied Sharks nerves, before Daniel Martin (61) and Tom Wilson (26) saw the Sharks to an imposing 181 total.
The Horsford Knights reply never got going. Henry Ayers and Josh Rowe never let the Knights openers have a loose ball to hit, and backed up by some keen fielding the required run rate was soon climbing.
As the run rate rose wickets began to fall at regular intervals and by 31 overs the Knights reply was no more. James Christopher’s spell of mesmorizing leg spin earned him the impressive figures 6-1-16-1.
Captain Daniel Martin with his 61 and bowling figures of 3-0-7-3 earned him the man-of-the-match award.
The Sharks victory earned them a place in the final on September 3rd against the winners of Diss or North Runcton.
