Swardeston have followed the signing of Norfolk batsman Carl Rogers by capturing the signature of county colleague Michael Eccles.
Fast bowler Eccles will join Swardeston to beef up their understrength bowling attack for the 2004 season. The right arm fast bowler made his Norfolk debut this summer and finished with 20 wickets having played in every one of the county’s three-day championship matches.
Eccles joined Norwich four years ago from Sprowston where he started his playing career. He took 28 wickets for Norwich in the EAPL this summer.
Explaining why he decided to join Swardeston, 23-year-old Eccles said: “I felt I needed a change and once I heard about the plans Swardeston have for next season this appealed to me. Obviously, I have bowled against Swardeston a number of times and realised that while they were very strong in the batting line-up that there would be a major opportunity in their team for someone like me who just likes to bowl and bowl.”
Having Carl at Swardeston as next year’s captain is also helpful because he knows exactly what I can do.”Swardeston chairman Mark Taylor said: “We are delighted to announce Michael is joining us. He has been a bowler we have admired at Swardeston for some time and believe he will be a fantastic addition to the club.”
