Swardeston Cricket Club’s well-established school coaching scheme has received a boost with the news of a major sponsorship for the initiative.

Norwich-based Design Company has agreed to sponsor the scheme and its investment has also received Sportsmatch backing.

Swardeston chairman Mark Taylor said: “We are delighted that Design Company and Sportsmatch are giving our scheme such strong backing. This will enable many youngsters to enjoy their first taste of cricket.”

“Their sponsorship means that 12 junior schools will benefit from discounted Kwik-cricket coaching during the summer term. This is a substantial increase over the number of schools taking part in our scheme during the past few seasons.”

Julian Steedman, director – brand development at Design Company, said: “We are proud to support our local community and such a worthy programme – we are also extremely pleased that Sportsmatch has endorsed our sponsorship.”

Swardeston have been running their schools scheme for six years under the leadership of the club’s director of coaching David Thomas. Last year former Zimbabwe captain Brian Murphy was a major hit when he coached in the scheme.

Swardeston are busy finalising arrangements ahead of naming who will be the coaches in this summer’s scheme.

Schools taking part: Mulbarton, Aslacton, Carleton Rode, Newton Flotman, West Earlham, Hethersett, Cringleford, Tacolneston, Wreningham, Bawburgh, Saxlingham Nethergate and Long Stratton.

Swardeston also provide a senior coach for Norwich School.
