Top Kiwi bat Mathew Sinclair launched his Swardeston career with a century on Sunday.

Sinclair dominated the home innings which also featured some promising performances from the team’s newcomers in the 184-run win over Beccles in the Stan Biss Trophy first round.

The Kiwi made 108 from 114 balls, hitting 12 fours and three sixes. He shared in a 67-run opening stand with new Swardeston skipper Carl Rogers who made 34.

After losing Jimmy Walker without any addition to the score Sinclair and fellow New Zealander Jaden Hatwell then put on 110 for the third wicket with Hatwell departing for 34 as Swardeston finished on 241-7 from their 50 overs. Sinclair was fourth out as David Thomas, Ian Tufts and Mark Thomas all reached double figures to push the score along.

Beccles showed some early resistance but once Mark Thomas made the first breakthrough wickets tumbled at a consistent rate to leave the visitors 57 all out.

New Swardeston seamer Michael Eccles led the way with 4-26, Thomas claimed 3-16 and Hatwell rounded off the innings and his day with 3-5
