And for the fourth year, a trophy was awarded for the best young player of the player season (Under-16) – the Philip Sturman Memorial Trophy.

Chair Stuart Bartram welcomed players and members and thanked guests from main club sponsors Leathes Prior for their support.

In his report, 1st XI captain Lewis Denmark said: “I had no hesitation in awarding the Men’s First XI Player of the Year Trophy to Jordy Taylor following the 2024 summer.

“A mainstay of the side, missing only one game due to a broken finger, Jordy was the epitome of consistency during the summer with the bat which saw him leading run scorer across the whole club including two very classy EAPL 100s.

“Opening the batting is not an easy role, especially in the EAPL, but Jordy continues to churn out match-winning runs year on year for the club. He now sits inside the top 10 all-time leading EAPL run scorers which is testament to both his quality but also his drive to keep performing every year.”

Over the summer Jordy scored 810 runs with a top score of 121 coming in the home win over Saffron Walden.

Skipper Sam Thelwell awarded the John Bobbin Salver as 2nd XI player of the year to George Walker.

George had a great all-round year taking 29 league wickets with a best of 7-22 in the home victory over Lowestoft. George was also top run scorer in the promotion-winning side making 333 runs with a top score of 71 against Diss.

Sam said: “George was the 2nd team’s top run scorer and made a crucial 26* in the very first game at Old Buckenham getting us over the line. That was an important victory for us. He averaged 41 with two 50s.

“He was also the team’s top wicket-taker, 29 wickets at 8 in 91 overs. His 7/22 against Lowestoft was a career-best for Swardeston. George also took his 900th wicket for the club, and is clearly player of the season.”

Ben Hogg was named the Swardeston CEYMS player of the year by captain Matt Hogg, winning the Bob Read Shield.  Matt was unable to attend and his review was read out by chair Stuart Bartram.

Matt wrote: “This season was particularly challenging for the 3rd team. With several key players moving on and no direct replacements incoming, we entered the campaign a little understrength in what was the strongest fourth division that I can remember for some years.

“In the batting department, Ben Hogg stood out with three half-centuries to his name, while both Dan Martin and Rikin Rajeshkumar chipped in with two each. With the ball, Alex Browne was a reliable force, using his miserly swing to pick up 10 wickets. On to the Player of the Season and this year, by virtue of scoring the most runs, is Ben Hogg. He also stepped up to captain the side in my absence, leading us to a much-needed win.”

Sam Blincoe was named the Swardeston CEYMS A player-of-the-year by captain Cameron Clarke, taking home the CEYMS Trophy. Cameron was unable to attend and his review was read out by chair Stuart Bartram.

Cameron wrote: “2024 was certainly a challenging season for the 4th team. Only two wins, and a lot of games where it felt like a world between us and our opposition. The standout player in the side was Sam Blincoe. Finishing the season as our top scorer, but also being a really dependable pair of hands in the field, particularly as a boundary rider.

“His highlight was our top score of the season of 79, where he looked so comfortable and positive in his stroke play, against table-topping unbeaten Narborough no less, easily being our best individual performance of the season.” Sam was also unable to attend.

Carla Cook was named the women’s player of the year and awarded the Rosamond Thomas Trophy.cCarla claimed 19 wickets over the season at an average of 14.5.

Director of Youth and Women and Girls Cricket Neil Tayor said: “Carla had an outstanding season which rightly ended with her being selected for a place in the Norfolk Cricket Board Centre of Excellence programme for the 2025 season.”

The programme runs each year and involves players from both boys and girls age-groups at U13 to U15.
