Our Swardeston & Great Melton women’s softball team delivered a vital performance at Great Melton, securing a 21-run victory against Norwich Bystanders.
This crucial win officially confirmed Swardeston & Great Melton Ladies as league champions and completed a fantastic double following their success in the MR Cricket MR Hockey Norfolk Cricket Foundation Ladies softball hundred trophy.
Batting first, the team produced an exceptional collaborative effort to build a match-winning performance.
Key batting performances (net score 373): Ella Picton led from the front, blasting a stunning 50 runs off just 15 balls. Micayla Tootill followed with a crucial 29 from only 7 deliveries.
There were also excellent contributions from captain Emily Francis (18 off 9) and Jo Hooper (18 off 12).
In the second innings, the team backed up the batters with a disciplined and focused bowling display to defend their total and secure the title.
Key bowling performances (opponent net score 352): Emily Francis set the standard with 1-11 from her 10 balls.
Wickets were shared among the team, with Sophie Bendon, Ella Picton, and Louise Rout all taking one apiece. Jade Taylor and Louise Rout also delivered particularly economical spells.
A special mention must go to Jess Bennett from Norwich Bystanders for an outstanding innings that kept her side right in the contest! It was a brilliant individual performance in a high-scoring match played in fantastic spirit by both teams.
