The long awaited start to the girl’s season began today at Brooke.
Organised by Jonathan Wills and supported by his team at Brooke who were mowing and rolling wickets last evening in preparation for our arrival at 9 a.m,
The tournament took place in the morning with each team containing six players. Brooke fielded three teams and we put out two teams, the Under-13s who were captained by April Herathge, and our Under-11 side.
Our teams played four matches each, each player bowling one over and being given out when out (no pairs cricket at this tournament). The sun shone, and the setting against the rolling countryside of south Norfolk should be enough to make everyone pleased they had climbed out of bed early on a Sunday morning.
Special thanks to our coaches for the day; Boys Under-9s coach Lee Beadman, marshaling the Under-11s and Saffy Herathge, looking after the Under-13s who went on to win two out of their four games. Thank you both.
Thanks also to all 12 cricketers, whose ages ranged from nine to 13. The two teams were great ambassadors for the club, trying hard, playing to win and being good all round sportswomen. Well done.
The tournament did not focus on specific scores but I have the list of who took wickets and catches. Special mention in the Under-13s to Emily Bunn, taking an impressive four wickets, April taking one wicket and two catches, Abi Sutherland taking a catch.
In the Under-11s Lucy surprising herself with her accurate and consistent bowling, taking two wickets, Lottie and Abi F taking one wicket a piece, Anna, when not wicket keeping taking two wickets and Maddy was credited with an excellent run out. Thank you to Abi Sutherland and Emily Chambers for wicket keeping in the Under-13s.
A brilliant starting point to a newly formed Under-11s team, and the continued cricketing development from all the girls in the Under-13s, who joined us last year.
