It was with some trepidation that Swardeston girls traveled to Brooke CC this Sunday to take part in a triangular fixture along with Old Buckenham CC. This was the clubs first ever girls cricket match and for most of the girls their first taste of proper cricket.
Match 1 vs. Brooke
Swardeston batted first scoring 71 runs at a cost of 5 wickets leaving them with a net score of 46, Emma Bailey top scored with 10 runs. Brooke’s innings reached a score of 56 runs however our tight bowling and fielding captured 10 wickets leaving Brooke on a score of net 6. Emily Grisewood and April Herathge both took 2 wickets each. Swardeston won by 40 runs.
Match 2 vs. Old Buckenham
Again Swardeston batted first and this time against some very accurate bowling and excellent fielding managed to reach 66 runs, losing 8 wickets in the process leaving them with a net 28 runs. Emily Grisewood top scored with 10 runs. Old Buckenham replied with 82 runs only losing 3 wickets therefore scoring a net 67 and winning by 39 runs. Emily Grisewood and Maise Dearmer sharing the wickets. It’s worth noting we gave away 56 runs in this match via wides and no balls – definitely something for the coaching team to work on! Otherwise the game against a very strong team would have been much closer.
Old Buckenham beat Brooke in the third game of the afternoon to win the competition, so our congratulations go to them and a big thank you to Brooke for organizing and hosting a wonderful afternoon’s cricket.
All the girls can be very proud of their performances and in the way they conducted themselves in both matches. Finally a big thank you to all the parents and helpers on the day. The next outing will be on Sunday July 7th at Brooke again.
