Michael Eccles was named premier team player of the year by captain Mark Thomas at Swardeston’s annual awards dinner, held at The Parson Woodforde last night.
Michael was the leading wicket taker for the 1st XI taking 59 wickets in all competitions, including a 6-19 return against Vauxhall Mallards in the ECB National Club Competition and 6-36 against Copdock & Old Ipswichian in the league.
He also played a part with the bat in Swardeston’s league title winning season, scoring a vital 9 not out off 80 balls to successfully bat out for a draw against Horsford, in a game that so easily could have ended in defeat.
Tony Bailey picked up the John Bobbin Salver as 2nd XI player of the year, presented the award by Peter Thomas at the end of his 14th and final season as captain. Tony led by example behind the stumps, taking 9 catches with 1 stumping, and also made a number of key contributions with the bat down the order.
Bowler David Horrex picked up the honours for the A XI for taking 25 league wickets at an average of just over 13, going for a misely 2.58 runs per over. Horrex’s best figures came in a low scoring win against Saham Toney, where he took 5 for 19 from 12 overs.
Rob Cranston was named the Swardeston CEYMS player of the year in his first season in Swardeston colours. Rob took 15 catches and made 2 stumpings with the gloves, but it was his commitment and improvement shown over the course of the season that was highlighted by captain Tom Snelling.
