Swardeston’s Sunday XI made it two out of two with a comprehensive victory at home to Anglians in the Mid-Norfolk Sunday League.
Winning the toss and choosing to bat on a glorious afternoon at the Common, Swardeston opener Joel Abraham proceeded to tear the Anglians bowling attack to pieces with a scintillating display of stroke-play and power hitting. His century came off just 81 balls containing 14 fours and 2 sixes.
Supported by Jonny Martin (55), Alex Bilham (30) and Dave Micklethwaite (24), Swardeston finished their innings on a very competitive 236 for 5.
Anglians began their innings strongly and were looking good at 90 for 1 at around the half way stage, but the loss of a couple of key wickets when they needed to push on meant the runs dried up and as such, the required run rate began to spiral.
Tight bowling throughout the innings from Steven Cadge (3 for 40), Rob Micklethwaite (2 for 44) and Dale Reynolds (1 for 31) kept Anglians in check, and another tidy fielding display saw Swardeston to a comfortable 47 run victory.
