Annual T20 match v Keswick Cocks ends in victory for Swardeston

It was our pleasure to host a very enjoyable T20 game on The Common on Sunday between a Swardeston XI and The Keswick Cocks.

This is the fourth year running we have staged the game, and the afternoon was blessed with great weather, good company, a few beers, and a BBQ.

The visiting team had eight Dannatt family players taking to the field. It was great to see all the younger (and older) Dannatts have such a good time and the progress the youngsters have made over the past year.

The Swardeston XI, skippered by 2nd XI captain Sam Thelwell, featured players from around the club’s adult and youth teams and special guest appearances of groundsman Joey Sidell and Harry Thomas, now making such great strides on the golf course.

Swardeston batted first and made 144-5 from their 20 overs, with Albie Makepeace top scoring with 27 before retiring not out. Olly Banthorpe made 25, Joe Beadman scored 25no (ret), and Oli Browne 20.

Keswick Cocks’ innings reached 138-9 with Bertie Dannatt making 32no (ret), Oli Dannatt 26no (ret) and Hal Dannatt 24.

Big thanks to Mark and Sarah Thomas, who helped to organise it all and make it happen, Norm Bygrave for scoring, and those who popped along to watch. Huge thanks to the Dannatt clan, too, for making it such a special day on The Common.

Keswick Cocks captain Oli Dannatt said: “Thank you again, Swardeston, for hosting the annual fixture against Keswick Cocks (consisting of eight Dannatts across three generations!) and for a brilliant afternoon’s cricket on The Common. Days like this are what cricket is all about. And thank you, Dale Clarke, for the amazing photos!”
