Swardeston and Great Melton Cricket Clubs are excited to announce the merging of their womens’ teams to compete in the newly formed Iceni Women’s League Division 1 and the existing Norfolk Shell and Softball leagues for the 2025 season onwards.
Both clubs see the merger as a fantastic opportunity that will give players at both clubs the ability to play at the most appropriate level and to help develop their cricket through a clear cricketing pathway. It also should ensure a wider pool of talent to enable a competitive team to be fielded in each level of competition.
With twice the number of coaches, opportunities to train on alternative Monday and Thursdays nights and twice the number of facilities for match days and training, this is huge step forward for the women’s game at both clubs.
Please be aware however that this merger only impacts the women’s teams (Year 8 upwards or girls in Year 7 representing the county) and will have no bearing on other junior or senior cricket at each club that will continue to be managed and organised separately.
Work is already underway regarding playing kit, shirt sponsors, membership and in finalising the exact details.
We look forward to sharing more details of this exciting new cricketing venture as we have them and hope that you can see the benefits moving forwards.
