This year we have secured the services of England and Glamorgan’s Robert Croft MBE to the dinner which will be held on Swardeston Common on Wednesday 28 September.

It is also our pleasure to announce that Abode Construction will become the event’s new sponsor.

Representing both England and Wales during his career, Robert Croft is a hugely successful cricketer. He made his England debut in 1996 against Pakistan and made such an impression that he secured a place on the tour of Zimbabwe and New Zealand, taking his best figures of 5-95 in Christchurch. After the 2004 tour of Sri Lanka, Croft announced his retirement from international cricket to focus on Glamorgan. His focused paid dividends and as he was made the captain of Glamorgan from 2003 until 2006.

By 2007, Croft had made a new record for a Welsh cricketer by being the first to pass 1,000 first class wickets as well as scoring over 10,000 runs. Croft received an MBE for his services to his sport in 2013. Although he retired as a player for Glamorgan in 2012, Croft was appointed as the assistant coach and then the head coach in 2016, officially leaving as the head coach in 2018.

Dinner organiser Sarah Thomas said: “We are thrilled to have secured Robert for this year’s cricket dinner and we very much welcome Abode as the main dinner sponsor.”

“I sincerely hope many will be able to join us at what has become a marvellous attraction for the corporate hospitality sector and cricket lovers alike. The dinner is open to all, both males and females, and tables are for 10 but we will endeavour to accommodate any number people may require.”

Headquarted in Long Stratton, Abode specialises in delivering housing, care and student accommodation for clients across Norfolk and Suffolk and was named Start-Up Business of the Year at last year’s Norfolk Business Awards.

Abode’s Managing Director Grant Keys said: “Swardeston is a club which does so much to promote the development of men’s, women’s and youth cricket in the local area and we at Abode are therefore are delighted to be sponsoring their annual dinner. It promises to be a great occasion and an opportunity to celebrate the club’s ongoing successes.”
