Swardeston CC is proud to host its annual cricket dinner for the 31st consecutive year with a new sponsor and a big name in English cricket as guest speaker.
This year we have secured the services of one of the true great names in modern English cricket as we welcome former England captain Michael Vaughan OBE to Swardeston.
It is also our pleasure to announce that Breakwater IT will become the event’s sponsor.
Breakwater’s Managing Director, John Gostling said: “Swardeston is one of the leading cricket clubs in East Anglia, with a history that stretches back over 150 years and a reputation for actively promoting the sport amongst younger generations. We are thrilled to be sponsoring the club’s consistently popular annual dinner and are very much looking forward to hearing from cricket legend Michael Vaughan.”
Vaughan captained England in 51 tests between 2003 and 2008, winning 26 (a national record) and losing 11; England won all 7 home tests of the 2004 summer under Vaughan, and the pinnacle of his captaincy career came with a 2-1 victory in the 2005 Ashes, England’s first Ashes victory since 1986/87.
Ahead of becoming England skipper, Vaughan was ranked one of the best batsmen in the world following the 2002/03 Ashes, in which he scored 633 runs, including three centuries.
Between 1993 and 2009 Vaughan played domestically for Yorkshire and scored 16,295 runs in his first-class career.
Knee troubles forced Vaughan to retire from all cricket mid-way through 2009 but his appetite for the game has not diminished in retirement and he has forged a successful broadcasting career with BBC’s Test Match Special, Channel 5 and his columns in the Telegraph. He also appeared on the BBC’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in 2012.
The dinner will take place at Swardeston Common on Monday 25 September 2017, 7 for 7.45pm.
Dinner organiser David Thomas said: “We are delighted to have secured Michael for this year’s dinner and we very much welcome Breakwater IT as our new main sponsor.
“I sincerely hope many will be able to join us at what has become a marvellous attraction for the corporate hospitality sector and cricket lovers alike. Tables are for 10 but I will endeavour to accommodate any number people may require.
“I would like to say a big thankyou to Richard Larner and Paul Pearce at Hargreave Hale who previously sponsored the dinner for many years and helped us grow it to the successful event it is today.”
