Tricky start for cup holders Swardeston

Swardeston begin the defence of their Carter Cup title on Sunday with a tricky trip to EAPL rivals Great Witchingham.

Both sides will feel the absence of key players, who will be lining up for Norfolk in their opening MCCA Knockout Trophy match against Northumberland at Manor Park on the same day.

Swardeston bowlers Michael Eccles and George Walker are on county duty, while Witchingham will be without captain James Spelman and Norfolk skipper Carl Rogers.

There are two new clubs in the competition this year in the shape of Hales and Hethersett & Tas Valley. Hales face Bradenham while Hethersett are at home to Bradfield.

Norfolk Alliance newcomers Great Melton face a tough test against last year’s runners-up, Horsford, while Vauxhall Mallards host Mattishall. Cromer will be eyeing an upset when they travel to EAPL side Fakenham and there is an all-Alliance Premier showdown between Topcroft and North Runcton.
